Vocal communication is an important method squirrels (Sciuridae) use to transfer information from one individual others. While behaviors associated with vocal have been explored in species or single call-types specific groups of squirrels, no comprehensive review these exists for Sciuridae. Herein, I the current literature describe three squirrels: ground tree and flying squirrels. discuss behavioral functions squirrel vocalizations. A wide variety are particular produced by including alarm, agonistic, discomfort, affiliative, mating, neonatal calls. There large knowledge gaps cataloging repertoires many commonly studied such as marmots alarm calls typically focused on other understudied ignored. Since development, reproduction, survival further understanding biological ecological drivers behind critical evaluating ethology this family a whole.
